How Biogas works?

Feed the System

Place your food and/or animal waste into the system sink. The waste will fall directly into the digester tank.

Digestion Process

The sun’s heat will activate the bacteria in the tank. The bacteria break down the waste and produce biogas.

Biogas is Formed

Biogas collects in the gas tank and is stored at low pressure. A pipe carries the gas to the kitchen stove.

Use By-Products

Cook on the clean biogas and use the natural, liquid fertilizer, which is produced for your home garden.

OPERATION

Do I need electricity to operate HomeBioGas?
No. The appliance is 100% off-grid.
After installation, you must activate HomeBiogas 2.0. This may take between 2-4 weeks. After that, it should produce biogas 24/7, as long as you feed it with organic waste.
The appliance thrives on food leftovers and animal manure. Avoid feeding large quantities of citrus fruit skin and chicken droppings since both tend to reduce the effectiveness of the digestion. Learn more here.
If you go on vacation or don’t have a lot of waste, don’t worry. The bacteria will breakdown all the organic waste inside the digester, and then stop producing gas. Once you get back to feeding the appliance, it will return to continuous biogas production.

PERFORMANCE

How much waste can I feed HomeBioGas 2.0 each day?
You can feed HomeBiogas with whatever leftovers you have! There is no minimum amount. The maximum amount you can feed HomeBiogas daily is 12 liters (12qt) of food waste mixed with water or 40 liters (40qt) of animal manure mixed with water. Yes! HomeBiogas 2.0 converts waste into biogas all the time, 24/7, so long as you feed it with organic waste and the surrounding temperature is warm enough.

SAFETY

How safe is HomeBioGas 2.0?
HomeBiogas is not only safe, it is safer than LPG and propane! In order to remain in a liquefied state in storage, LPG must be kept under high-pressure conditions. This poses a greater risk of explosion when in the vicinity of an ignition source. HomeBiogas 2.0, on the other hand, purposefully stores the gas in a soft case, at a low pressure, which prevents explosion.
Biogas is made up of small molecules which are lighter than air. When released into the surrounding environment, the biogas loses its ability to ignite and will quickly diffuse upwards, leaving the premise immediately. On the contrary, LPG and Propane sink to the ground, increasing the risk of toxic levels of exposure.
HomeBiogas has taken every precaution necessary to ensure that our appliances meets all safety standards. -HomeBiogas was tested by and received the European Community CE stamp of approval for safety. -HomeBiogas received two ISO certifications: certification 9000 for Quality Management and 14000 for Environmental Management. -Lastly, HomeBiogas was tested by and approved for safety and health by the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Energy Infrastructure.

MAINTENENCE

We recommend maintaining your HomeBiogas 2.0 unit periodically by:
1. Replacing its gas filter once a year. The gas filter removes the hydrogen sulfide from the biogas.
2. Replacing the chlorine tablet if it has dissolved completely. The chlorine tablet disinfects the remaining bacteria in the liquid fertilizer.

ADDITIONAL INFO

HomeBiogas 2.0 is made to function in an average of 20 degree C temperature. If you live in a much colder climate, you will need to take steps to warm the appliance to an average of 20 degrees, so that it will work properly.
1) Add an electric aquarium heater to heat the digester tank.
2) Place the system in a greenhouse that is warm and has proper ventilation.
HomeBiogas now provides specially adapted biogas stoves. If you would like to order one, please contact support@homebiogas.com. You can connect HomeBiogas 2.0 to an existing stove, however, you may need to convert it to work with biogas. Check our Stove Page to learn more.
